Studio Rental
If you are in need of presses or other equipment offered in our Shared Printmaking Facilities to complete your projects, please consider our studio rental program! Studio rental is available during our open hours for the public and extended hours for BAC artists.
-
Studio time must be scheduled at least 24 hours in advance via our scheduling system to reserve the equipment, space, and staff you need. Please see below for a complete breakdown of the studio areas and individual pieces of equipment you can use with your studio rental.
-
With this type of rental, at least one of our staff members will be there to provide you with dedicated, one-one-one assistance as you work. Types of projects can range from learning an entirely new technique to assistance with inking, troubleshooting, and/or completing editions. This time can be split between artists as long as they are working on the same press or station
$400 for 4 hours
Available to the public during SPF open hours. Bakehouse Artists have access to extended hours.
-
Unassisted printing is available for artists who know how to use our equipment and can work independently in the space. You must be certified on the press or equipment you are renting before making the reservation.
Unassisted studio rental will include a check in and check out of the equipment which can take up to 15 minutes each. All clean up must start at least 30 minutes prior to the end of the session.
Please see below for specific presses, equipment, and supplies available. If you are ready to get printing, reserve your session here.
$100 for 5 hours
Open to the public during SPF’s open hours. Bakehouse Artists have access to extended hours.
-
You can become certified our equipment via assisted studio rental or a certifying workshop. Please read more about assisted printing above. Please view our classes + events page for upcoming certification classes.

We understand that our prices are not a small amount and have done our best to subsidize and save money in every way we can. That said, the prices listed are the lowest that we can possibly offer while still being able to sustain our mission. With this in mind, we do have options for lowering the burden of studio rental:
Share press time with another person. Studio rental counts per press or equipment so if you have a friend or fellow artist who can share the cost and the press with you, please feel free to do so. We have created a whatsapp group for our community where you can reach out and find other people who are interested in using the studio and sharing the costs.
Rules for sharing press time:
The person making the reservation must be certified to work on the press
The split of money between people sharing press time needs to be done on your own, we are not able to split the cost and bill two people on our end. There are lots of great options for sending money including zelle, venmo, cashapp or just good old fashioned cash.
If one person is certified to use the equipment and the other person is not, the person who is certified is responsible for making sure that the equipment is used and cleaned properly. The certified person must remain in the space, the non-certified person must not be left alone in the space.
If one person is certified and the other is not, the certified person is welcome to teach the non-certified person to use the equipment but this will not certify them in itself. To become certified, you must complete an assisted printing session on that equipment or take a certifying workshop.
Keyholder residency. We have a limited number of keyholder residents per year. Keyholders receive free access to our equipment in exchange for shifts monitoring the studio. Find out more about our keyholder program here.
Become a Bakehouse Associate Artist. The Bakehouse Associate Artist program is open to artists who have a body of work and are committed to their practice. The program costs $550 per year and is paid to the Bakehouse Art Complex and directly benefits the Shared Printmaking Facilities ability to operate within the complex. Bakehouse Associate Artist open calls are held yearly. Please email us if you are interested in this program.
Program benefits include:
Discounts on all aspects of using the studio: unassisted and assisted studio time, materials, workshops, and print-for-hire services.
Extended hours in all SPF spaces. Note: Bakehouse artists do not have free access to SPF’s spaces, studio rental fees are discounted for BAC artists.
Free 24/7 access to the BAC print room (with the etching presses and facilities) as well as the BAC clean room (with the exposure unit and washout sink).
Free 24/7 access to all communal Bakehouse facilities.
Free office hours with Shared Print Fac staff where you can discuss projects, troubleshoot printing issues, and generally pick our brains.

Maintaining any relationship with SPF is dependent upon a mutual agreement to behave and communicate with respect and care for others, as well as for our space and equipment.
Though we encourage the exchange of ideas and perspectives that art often facilitates, we are committed to distinguishing between a challenging exchange and a harmful one. If you cannot express your idea compassionately, or if the idea you’re expressing is itself harmful to others in our community, we reserve the right to terminate our relationship with you, or to ask you to leave. Racism, ableism, sexism, homophobia, and transphobia are not welcome here, as are most other perspectives which reinforce oppression and marginalization. Please use the name and pronouns each person introduces themselves with. Don’t touch people without consent. Apologize if you make a mistake and move forward with the intention to do better. We want those who come here to feel welcome to be themselves, and we want everyone here to grow from these interactions.
Additionally, we require respectful and safe use of all facilities, equipment, and materials in the building. As a quick general guide to studio etiquette:
1.) If you aren’t sure how to use it and/or it doesn't belong to you, don’t touch it.
2.) If you don’t have time to clean, you don’t have time to print.
3.) This is a community studio environment. Sharing space and equipment requires clear and respectful communication with the other folks you’re working near.
4.) If it’s out or empty, let someone who works here know!
5.) No solvents on the type and no alcohol on the brayers. Ever.
6.) Closed toed shoes are always the better option.
7.) We’re here for you! So please do not be afraid to ask questions in instances of uncertainty. If you need more training, we can make a plan together.
We welcome feedback on how we could improve these expectations to continue to build a safe, welcoming, and inclusive environment. To discuss any recommendations you have about improving this policy, or to discuss an experience you’ve had here which you feel was at odds with the ethos this policy is meant to embody, please send an email to us at info@isprojectsfl.com with the subject line: Code of Conduct.
