This November, we celebrate a once-in-a-lifetime milestone — Bakehouse’s 40th anniversary and the 100th birthday of our iconic former bakery building. You, our artists, board members, and champions, are at the heart of this celebration who have given us meaning and have helped steward the organization for the past forty years and now into the future. We would love to have you join us!

On Friday, November 7, from 7-10pm, we’ll preview Bakehouse at Forty: Past, Present, Future, a multi-component installation that spans the building a century of production, from bread to culture— featuring our archives (PAST, curated by Philip Lique (work by our current residents (PRESENT, curated by Krysten Ortega) and an immersive look at our future campus designed by Michael Maltzan Architecture (FUTURE) We have commissioned an audio installation by Archival Research based on the sounds of the past century at Bakehouse and in Miami. Our resident studio artists Juan Matos and Monica Sorelle are presenting a short film screening, funded by the Lynn and Louis Wolfson II Family Foundation, in which we will hear how space, opportunities, and community have affected artists at Bakehouse.

The evening will feature our always anticipated Open Studios, where you will have a unique opportunity to directly support our artists. We will have food trucks and sponsored drinks on site representing the multiculturalism of the Bakehouse community and our neighborhood. We will also have a surprise birthday treat for all our guests by Zak The Baker! At 9pm we will have a birthday cake and Piñata time, followed by a dance party and salsa session led by Salsa Z.
